| The self catering cottage is situated right on the banks of the river Gaur and offers excellent angling opportunities on two rivers and four lochs. Bank and boat fishing are both available. The stocked brown and rainbow trout run from three to twelve pounds, the wild trout a little smaller. Large pike are also taken on the Gaur close to the Lodge. Fishermen are advised to bring their own fishing rods and tackle. The River Gaur leaves Laidon and heads east through Loch Eigheach to Loch Rannoch, and contains charr, ferrox trout, brown trout and fierce fighting pike. |
The River Tummel leaves Loch Rannoch at Kinloch Rannoch and continues its eastward journey through Dunalastair Reservoir. This shallow, fertile loch was created by a hydro dam and contains very large brown trout and some enormous pike. Both the trout and pike on the Gaur can be taken on the fly or on spinners. Trout in the stocked lochs are fly fishing only. Two boats are available in the stocked lochs. There are no catch limits but only one fish per day may kept for consumption.
Resident sportsmen : £200 per week, per party, for all fishing.
Non Resident : £30 per person on stocked loch - £10 per day per rod for fishing on river.

Other Outdoor Activities
Walking and hiking - The area has boundless opportunities for walkers and hikers. With 2 Monros (Sgor Gaihre and Carn Dearg) and 2 corbetts on the Estate itself. Cycling - The roads around Dunan offer largely level cycling through some of the most scenic parts of the Highlands. Ranging from the shorter local rides to Bridge of Gaur to more adventurous rides around Loch Rannoch. For the avid cyclist the roads around Dunan will not disappoint. Bird watching - The 10 000 acres of The Dunan Estate encompass varied eco systems providing many differing habitats which encourage a wide range of birds to make the Estate their home or nesting grounds. Hen harriers, osprey, falcons, even golden eagles and many other raptors are all seen here as well as many other LBJ s of interest to birders.

Alternatively you could do Absolutely Nothing - This under rated activity is highly recommended. Far too many of our overstressed visitors have holidays leaving them even more tired than when they arrived. May we suggest a week of pure Highland air, some moderate exercise and hours of doing absolutely nothing, perhaps with a glass of wine or a small dram of Highland Malt. This should have even the most jaded returning home truly refreshed and ready to take up the yoke once more.
