Loch Arklet

Loch Arklet is approximately 12 miles from Aberfoyle on the B829 road to Inversnaid and Stronachlacher. If you follow the single track road to the T Junction you will see Arklet on the left hand side. Turn left for Inversnaid Hotel and drive to the end of the Loch. Once you have passed the dam and water board houses, on the left there is a metal barred gate on the left hand side. Go through the gate and park at the end of the track below the dam wall and the boats can be found on the beach to the right of the dam. The loch is approximately 2 ½ miles long and ½ a mile wide

Loch Arklet is fly fishing only from boats and The Trossachs Fishings have the only 3 boats for hire. Only electric engines are permitted as the Loch feeds a public water supply (Loch Katrine). Favoured areas are amongst the many bays, small islands and points on the roadside bank, however, equally as many fish are taken all the way across the Loch.

The Loch holds wild brown trout only which average ¾ lb, however, many bigger specimens regularly feature in catch reports and an average bag of 10 fish per rod is to be expected. Standard wet flies, dries and hoppers work well in sizes 10 and 12. The scenery in the valley surrounding Arklet is stunning and the wildlife varied making for an all round enjoyable day regardless of weather conditions.

As is usual with wild brownies, they prefer a bit of ripple on the water to catch with floating lines. Boats cost £20-00 per day and electric engines may be hired at £7-00 per day for up to 3 anglers. The services of a boatman is usually available at negotiable rates Best time of year is April, May, June, then September and October.

Finglass Reservoir

Loch Finglass is one of the main holding reservoirs for Loch Katrine.

It is approximately 8 miles from Callander via an unclassified road from Brig O Turk off the A821. Turn right at the Brig O Turk tearoom and follow the road to the Dam. The boats can be found on the left hand side of the dam below the car park.

The Trossachs Fishings provide 2 boats for fly fishing only and electric engines are permitted. The scenery in Glen Finglass is spectacular and is usually only shared with the Buzzards, Oyster catchers Common gulls and other birdlife.

The loch is deep and steep sided, which dictates that most of the feeding for the wild brownies is found on or near the surface. They average ½ lb. and rise freely to any standard wet, dry or hopper pattern depending on conditions. Size 12 in the wet flies will produce bags of up to 30 or more fish in a day.

[Loch Finglass]

Fish can be taken all over the loch with the many bays and points testing boat handling
to get the most out of them. A great venue for beginners and experienced anglers alike.

Boats cost £20-00 per day and £7-00 per day for an electric motor.

Boats can hold 2 anglers only.

Bookings can be made at Loch's Venachar and Achray or Telephoning Morris Meakle on:

Trossachs Leisure was established in 2004 to take over the long established business of "Trossachs Fishings" with its
base on the north shore of loch Venachar.

Since acquiring the business and site in March 2004, all the boats used for fishing have been completely refurbished and most of the outboard engines are new. With 30 boats available we have the capability to accommodate major competitions.

The peir at Loch Venacher

We have created a new fishing lodge with all modern facilities including a fully licenced Harbour Cafe for snacks and meals and there is also a small tackle shop specialising in quality fishing tackle and clothing.

Loch Venacher

Bank and boat fishing is permitted on the loch, with the best results being from a boat. Venachar Lochside offer an exciting array of different fishing packages including Salmon, Brown Trout and Pike fishing.

Boat fishing is by fly only and all of our boats are now fitted with Yamaha 4hp four stoke engines and landing nets. Bait and spinning is still permitted from certain areas of the bank.

The loch provides many ideal and interesting bays to fish. At its western end long uninterrupted drifts can be achieved, casting into a depth of 6ft. to 8ft., great conditions for Brown Trout. There is an abundance of invertebrate life providing good feeding for fish. Loch Venachar is famous for its large hard fighting Pike

It offers salmon and trout fishing on the river Dochart which flows eastwards for 13 miles
(21 km) from Loch Dochart at the head of Glen Dochart, Stirling through to Loch Tay at Killin.

As with all upper reaches, fishing is highly dependent on water conditions.

The River Teith

The Lanrick Estate, Salmon and Sea Trout Fishing

The Lanrick Estate water is situated between Doune and Callander and extends for 3. 5 miles of which 2 miles are single bank and 1.5 miles are double bank fishing. There are 16 named pools amid a magnificent woodland and parkland setting. The season is from 1st Feb until 31st Oct.

The Lanrick Estate salmon fishing beat

The River Teith enjoys a traditional spring run from the opening day followed by an exciting sea trout run between March and July accompanied by a less predictable grilse run. An excellent autumn run continues from late August until the end of the season in October.

The Teith has a well deserved reputation for some large fish and every year fish over 20lbs and even some over 30lbs are landed.

Day and weekly tickets for up to six rods are available throughout the season although as some bookings are made well in advance especially during the autumn you are advised to book early.

The Lanrick water is divided into two beats, Upper and Lower Lanrick both of which may be booked separately through the Estate Office. (Full contact details as below)

Two rods are permitted on the Upper Beat and a maximum of four on the Lower Beat. The Lower Beat is exclusively fly only while spinning is permitted on the Upper Beat during very high water.

The River Teith salmon fishing beat

Normal fishing hours are from 9.00am until 5.30pm. Special arrangements for evening and night time fishing and all other queries may be made with the Estate Office. A 15ft fly rod is suitable for most of the year although smaller rods are appropriate in low water conditions. A house rod is retained throughout the season. A voluntary catch and release policy is operated and anglers are encouraged to return fish in order to aid the recovery of stocks.

Salmon fishing beat on The Lanrick Estate

A experienced resident ghillie may be booked to provide assistance and advice and it is suggested that all new guests use this service to increase their chances of success and help identify the pools in differing water conditions. Guests will also greatly benefit from an all terrain vehicle which makes travelling along the river much easier. The ghillie can also give casting lessons for beginners who wish to learn the art of fly fishing.

The rate per rod varies throughout the season starting at £35 plus VAT for a single rod per day. For further information regarding availability of fishing and associated rates please contact The Lanrick Estate Office or visit their own website for more in depth details of The Lanrick Estate.
