Coarse and Pike Fishing in Strathclyde

No menu on the left, please click here.

Coarse fishing has always taken second place to salmon and trout fishing in Scotland but in recent years has been growing in popularity. There are a number of commercial fisheries which are now dedicated coarse fishing venues and a number of other fisheries who have at least one or more lochs for the coarse angler.

Loch Awe

Loch Awe, Ardbrecknish.
Loch Awe is 24 miles in length and is one of Scotland's largest fresh water lochs.
It offers course angling for pike, perch and roach as well as a variety of game fishing.

Having a very high water quality and a varied habitat the loch produces an abundance of rich natural feeding which in turn produces some exceptionally large fish. Loch Awe is indeed a loch for big fish with the largest pike caught here standing in at 35lb.5oz. With the wide diversity of fish in the loch and any legal method of fishing allowed, Loch Awe has something for just about every fisherman, including boat or bank fishing.

Loch Awe Improvement Association issue permits for course fishing and can be obtained from the local tackle shops and boat hirers as well as most hotels, shops and filling stations in the area. Salmon and sea trout permits can be obtained from Loch Awe Boats.

The Facilities

There is a well stocked tackle shop on site which has a good selection of bait including Maggots,
Pinkies, Casters, Worms, Pellets, Pastes and Groundbaits. As the fishery is relatively new, if there
is anything that they don't currently stock they will endevour to get it for you as soon as they can.

There is also a cafe on site which serves breakfasts and other hot food. The cafe is only open on
Sundays at present but will open more regularly once the most popular times are established.

When the cafe is not open you can still obtain a selection of hot and cold drinks from the vending
