Kirkwood Fishings

Kirkwood is situated just south east of Lockerbie near the village of Dalton.

The fishing is predominantly river fishing for salmon and sea trout but they do have some excellent brown trout waters. The salmon and sea trout fishing are on the River Annan.

The Kirkwood Beat is around one and a third miles in length and is single bank only.
(The right hand bank).

There are 12 named pools, although some are only good at certain heights of water. The river is quite wide here (say 30 yards) as Kirkwood is only 8 miles from the estuary. In places it is deep and chest waders are essential. The beat normally catches 25 to 60 salmon in a year and around 50 - 100 sea trout.

The brown trout fishing is on The Water of Milk which is a tributary of the River Annan. There is around 11 miles of fishing in the most beautiful unspoilt surroundings. The main attraction is trout to be caught in daylight during in the summer. There is a wild stock of small brownies, but they have restocked in some years with two year old indigenous brown trout.

The Loch fishing is on Loch Skene which is a true hill loch with plenty of small wild trout.
It is above the famous, magnificent waterfall the Grey Mares Tail, where from the Spring
of 2000 you will be able to watch Peregrine Falcons at the nest.

Purdomstone is a natural reservoir, set in the hills above Ecclefechan.
For £8 per day fishermen have use of the loch and boat.

Lady's Lochan is a mini loch stocked with some trout.
It is about half an acre and set in the middle of our woods - a very peaceful and pleasant spot.
Fly only allowed. By arrangement £10/day.
