The River Cree

Situated in the heart of Newton Stewart, this river has an excellent standard for angling association water and produces good catch records. Fishing is not available to visitors at the weekends.

The fishing consists of West Bank from the top side of the Suspension Bridge Pool to South March of Nether Barr Farm and, East Bank from Whitehills March Fence at the upper end of the Ghyll Pool to the top end of the Slaughterhouse Pool. The best pools on the river are the Brewery, Doctors, Suspension Bridge and Ghyll pools. We also have some tidal pools too which produce large fish.

The River Cree has had extensive done in the past few years, including the deepening of pools and
fixing weirs and banks. The results so far are looking good and the pools are now holding better than
ever before. Other work which has been carried out by the community council has included the
building of a new foot bridge and the introduction of walk ways and picnic areas along the river.
