Tomich Hills Lochs

Tomich Hills Lochs are situated just north of Cannich.

This is a prime example of high quality hill loch fishing set amidst the spectacular scenery
of one of Scotland's most beautiful Highland Glens. The fishing is fly fishing only by way of bank and boat for brown trout and rainbows.

The season is from April till September.

Trout fishing at Tomich has been famous for many years but has only been available to the general public since 1989. The fishing is on a number of hill lochs ranging in size from approx 2 acres to 30 acres. The lochs are between 600 and 900 feet above sea level.

The fishing to some extent has been managed with some steps being taken to improve the water quality and whilst the vast majority of fish are wild, a limited amount of stocking does take place in some lochs to supplement the wild stock.

[Playing one of the quality, hard fighting brownies.]

The fishing ranges from quite difficult with large fish to relatively easy with smaller fish so there is something to attract the expert and the beginner alike. The fishing is arranged on a weekly or 3 day basis but day tickets can be obtained for some of the lochs by request.

The Lochs

Loch Beinne Moire - covers about 30 acres and is the largest loch in the system. The fishing is by boat and the fish average about a pound. With magnificent surroundings it really does provide for some excellent hill loch fishing.

The Root Loch - About a hundred yards from Loch Beinne Moire. This holds a much larger head of fish but smaller in size.

Loch Beinne Bheag - is a small rainbow loch. Over wintered fish here can get up to 4lb plus.

[A magnificent view looking down on the loch.]

Loch Nam Luch
is adjacent to Loch Beinne Bheag. It's a delightful small loch with the average fish being about 3/4 lbs but occassionally can produce a large brown in excess of 2lbs. It is bank fishing only on this loch.

Loch Greidlein (pronounced Gretel)
is famous for it's large brown trout with the record standing at 7-1/2 lbs, though naturally these are not easy to catch. The loch enjoys prolific fly life and some real excitement can be had when there is a hatch of sedges.

Loch Nam Gillean
is situated about 8 miles up the glen past the small settlement at Cougie. It is a beautiful remote loch with some magnificant wild brown trout up to 2 and a half pounds. Because of the remoteness of the loch fisherman are ususlly taken up there in an 8 wheel cross country Argo Cat.

Loch Nam Fiodhag Lower
Is fishing by boat with the average fish being about 1/2 pound.

Loch Nam Fiodhag Upper
A real connoisseurs loch. It is bank fishing with some beautiful
wild brown trout in the one and a half pound category.

Loch Caoireach
This is a small bank fishing only loch with numerous
small brownies and more suited for the beginner.

The fishing is usually let for the week with a ghillie being provided for 4 of the 7 days. Although there are set itineraries for your weeks fishing a high level of flexibility is offered and your itinerary can be arranged to suit. Tuition is also available if required.

Prices range form £315 per week subject to availability.
Accommodation can be arranged for you locally if required.

3 day and single day permits are also available on request.
