We are pleased to announce that Jock Monteith has joined "Fishing in Scotland" as a freelance salmon fishing guide and Spey casting instructor and he brings with him a wealth of knowledge of Scotland's prime salmon fishing rivers coupled with his superb teaching ability in the classic art of Spey Casting.

We can provide a comprehensive range of fully guided salmon fishing breaks from a one, two or three day fishing trip to a complete weeks fishing holiday including an expert guide, quality well balanced Speycasting rods, reels and lines and we always carry a comprehensive selection of salmon fishing flies. The spectacular scenery and the abundant wildlife are included in all our trips free of charge.

We have access to prime salmon fishing beats on the rivers Tay, Spey, Dee and Tweed as well as many other rivers throughout Scotland. In addition we can occasionally access house rods from a number of select beats on each of these rivers. If you prefer to fish some of the smaller rivers we can arrange to have you fishing on one of the dozens of tributaries that flow into the main rivers. When conditions are right the smaller tributaries can produce some great catches in terms of numbers and size of fish.

Our guided salmon fishing trips cater for individuals or groups from the complete beginner to the seasoned fisherman. We can also arrange for additional guides for larger parties and corporate fishing days. If you join us for a couple of days or more we have the flexibility to arrange a different beat or even a different river each day. We can also arrange to have you or your party picked up from any of the major airports, railway stations or even from your hotel if you are already staying in Scotland. If you have already booked your fishing and accommodation and require the services of a professional guide or would like a guide to join you for a couple of hours to give you Spey Casting lessons then we can arrange for a professional guide to join you at any location you are salmon fishing in Scotland.

About Your Guide

Jock was the Head Ghillie on the Newtyle salmon Beat on the river Tay for over 10 years before deciding to offer his professional services throughout Scotland
as a freelance fishing guide and Speycasting instructor.

He has become one of Scotland's best salmon fishing guides and Speycasting instructors, which is hardly surprising as he learned his craft as a youngster from one of the finest fishing guides on the River Tay, Willie ‘The Ghillie’ Laird. Willie "The Ghillie" was a legend who was highly respected within the salmon fishing fraternity not only in Scotland but by salmon fishing anglers worldwide who came to fish the River Tay.

Willie passed on his wealth of experience to Jock and Jock has become an expert in his craft. He has fished the Tay, Spey, Dee, the Tweed and most other Scottish rivers for over 35 years and has taught hundreds of satified clients the art of Speycasting, many of whom return year after year to fish in Scotland with Jock.

Jock is not your average fishing guide and whilst he takes his salmon fishing very seriously it is done in a relaxed, friendly manner with an abundance of good humour and banter. Even if you have no prior experience of salmon fishing, we can teach you Spey Casting in a couple of hours or even less. Jock has been giving Spey Casting lessons for decades and he prides himself on his uncomplicated and very effective Spey Casting teaching technique.

We offer Spey Casting tuition by the hour at Dunkeld or it can be incorporate as part of your guided fishing trip. Our Spey Casting lessons cater from the complete beginner to more advanced casting techniques for seasoned anglers or for those just wishing to brush up on their existing casting skills.

The Salmon Fishing Seasons.

The river Tay is from the 15th of January up until the 15th of October althought a couple of the Tay tributaries are open until the 30th of October. The river Spey is from the 11th of February until the 30th of September. The Dee is from the 1st of February up until the 30th of September. The Tweed is from the 1st of February until the 30th of November, one of the longest seasons of all the rivers.

Salmon Fishing Permit Prices.

Salmon fishing permit prices can range from £45 to £150 per day depending on the time of year and the individual beat of each river. We can also arrange pike fishing trips all year round on our specially equipped boat on Loch Lomond and a variety of other great pike fishing lochs throughout Scotland. Our prices will depend on the time of year you wish to fish and which river or rivers you choose. The number of people in your party, if transportation is required and if you would like Speycasting tuition as part of your fishing trip. On certain beats we can arrange accommodation for you or we can make some recommendations as to local hotels or guest houses within easy reach of where you are fishing.

One Day Salmon Fishing Trips from London City, Heathrow or Gatwick.

We can also provide one day fishing trips from London and the Home Counties. If you catch the first flight from Heathrow into any major airport in Scotland or London City airport into Dundee and we will collect you from the airport and take you to one of Scotlands finest salmon fishing rivers for a day's salmon fishing.
